10: Nvidia 3080 capacitor controversy

Welcome back to the podcast, episode 10! Featuring a new name! Turns out that the name “The Wildcast” is in use by another podcast. So I made up a new silly name. The podcast will now be “Jimmy Games Wild”. The name makes me smile, so there it is lol. :D

This week I wanted to talk about the Nvidia 3080s again. More drama surrounding the launch. It appears that some manufacturers may have changed (cost saving?) some capacitors and this may be causing crashes while gaming.

For the main topic, there have been plenty of reports of games crashing on the new 3080 cards. Looks like as the card gets around 2000Mhz it may have power delivery issues and crash.

Igor’s Lab broke the original story and identified the capacitors potentially causing problems. Read more here:

Buildzoid ended up doing a video about it. He is great at explaining how these GPUs work and what each of the parts actually does.

Igor’s Lab did do a follow up article as well. This has a lot more information and clarifications.
