12: Platform Exclusives

Welcome to the j76 gaming podcast episode 12!

This week's main topic is in response to Xbox's Phil Spencer saying that they don't have to release Elder Scrolls VI on PlayStation to make the Bethesda acquisition profitable. This got me thinking more about platform exclusives in gaming. Are exclusives bad for gamers? What if Elder Scrolls VI becomes an exclusive? Do we care?

Ultimately I do care if Elder Scrolls VI becomes a Microsoft exclusive. Selfishly I don’t care cause a Microsoft exclusive means it’s on PC which is where I want everything to be. But looking at gamers in general, I am adamantly against exclusives of any kind. Unless of course it is 100% first party in something like Nintendo.

I’ve spent most of the week playing No Man’s Sky once again. I found my S Class Freighter and have some nice fighters and explorers, still need that hauler though. Spent all week on Twitch hunting for that perfect hauler!

This week’s collection revisit is Full Throttle. I have my signed copy of Full Throttle for PC from back in 1995. It’s signed by Tim Schafer and comes with a funny story about meeting Tim for the first time.
